Junglekeepers Doubles Protected Rainforest Acreage, Defends Uncontacted Tribes, and Raises Record Funds in 2024
PERU, Madre de Dios, March 3rd, 2025 — Junglekeepers, the nonprofit dedicated to safeguarding Peru’s Las Piedras Corridor, has released its 2024 Annual Report, marking a landmark year in the fight to preserve one of the last truly wild stretches of Amazon rainforest.
In just 12 months, Junglekeepers more than doubled its protected area from 49,000 to 107,000 acres, bringing the organization one-third of the way toward its long-term goal of preserving the entire 300,000-acre corridor.
Key 2024 milestones include:
- 58,000 acres protected across strategic zones under threat from roads, logging, and international extraction interests.
- $3.3 million raised — a 469% increase from 2023, with 20% of donations now recurring.
- Global recognition: Co-founder Juan Julio Durand named a TIME100 Climate Leader.
- Buffer zone established to protect the Uncontacted Mashco Piro tribe after violent incursions by illegal loggers.
- Expansion of cutting-edge conservation tech, including real-time camera traps that helped detect and respond to forest fires.
The organization also made significant strides in education, scientific research, and community engagement, supporting over 100 women and children with cultural and ecological programs, and contributing to peer-reviewed studies on species like the red howler monkey, saddle-back tamarin, and jaguarundi.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Junglekeepers is shifting from defense to offense, aiming to secure another third of the corridor before road expansion irreversibly fragments the landscape. The nonprofit seeks to raise $2.5 million immediately and $30 million total to achieve full corridor protection.

“Our momentum is real, but the threats are escalating,” said Junglekeepers Founder and Field Director Paul Rosolie. “This is the endgame. We must act now or lose this rainforest forever.”
